When you book your first massage with Carey Coffin Massage Therapy, you will be sent a confirmation email including the time and date of your appointment. You’ll get a separate email asking you to fill out an online Health History form (check your spam folder!). to inform me of any injuries and relevant medical history. It is best to fill this out as accurately as possible and include injuries or surgeries even if they happened decades ago; everything is connected! This information is private and secure and will only be viewed by me, your massage therapist.
There is parking on the street in front of the building and on side streets. The building does not have a buzzer, so when you’re near or outside the front door, text the number at the bottom of your confirmation email and I’ll come get you. I will review your forms with you, direct bill your insurance if applicable, and discuss the reasons for your visit and any specific areas you would like to address during your treatment. Included within the appointment time is 10 minutes for consultation and undressing.
Your massage session is held in a private room, and you may ask that the environment be tailored to your comfort; music can be changed or turned off, lights can be dimmed, and blankets and bolsters can be requested. I will leave the room to allow you to undress and lay down on the table under the top sheet. You may completely undress or remain partially clothed, treatments will be adjusted accordingly. During your session, I will only uncover the area of your body being treated.
Communication is key to make sure you receive the most effective treatment to achieve your therapeutic goals and maintain your comfort. While a massage treatment is not supposed to be painful, some discomfort may occur on the road to healing. I will check in with you periodically to make sure you are comfortable with depth and pressure; please do not hesitate to tell me if there is any pain or discomfort.
After your treatment is complete, I will go and wash my hands, and then wait outside the room to give you time to dress. When you are ready, you may open the door and I’ll come back in to discuss the effects of the treatment, check in with your range of motion, and suggest homecare if required. Payment will be processed at this time if insurance has not been direct billed or did not fully cover the treatment. Please drink plenty of water and allow your body to rest for a while after your massage.
